19世紀初め、ナポレオン帝政期のジョゼフィーヌの時代に生まれた、胸のすぐ下で切り替えるドレスのライン。それが1960年代に、もう一度流行しました。

床丈のドレスは、夜会のためだけのものではありませんでした。アメリカには、客を家に招く夜に迎える側が着る一着があり、ホステスドレスと呼ばれていました。

こうしたドレスは、型紙を使って家で縫われることも少なくありませんでした。これもその一着です。

 

The line of Joséphine's dresses in the early 1800s, seamed just below the bust under Napoleon's empire, came back into fashion in the 1960s.

Floor-length dresses weren't only for formal evenings. In America there was one worn by the woman of the house when guests came over, known as the hostess dress.

Many dresses like this were sewn at home from paper patterns. This is one of those.
